Decorating is always exciting. Even when you’re on a limited budget, even when you’re lacking in time, and even when you’re starting to get stressed.
Me and Jay have still got all three bedrooms to decorate, and although I hate preparing to paint a room, and living without flooring, the end result is 100% worth it. What gets you through is thinking about the finished room.
When it comes to interiors, we all want to make our dream home designs a reality. But to do that, you need to work out where your budget should go and how your money should be spent. This is the boring part, but an essential part. Otherwise you might end up with a gorgeous, thick carpet, and no money to buy new furniture. Or a bed.
So, prioritising. Boring, but needed. You’ll need to write a list of what you need. Can you live with your chest of drawers for a few months instead of buying a new set now? I’m the worst for this. I’m SO impatient, and need everything right now. However, that probably won’t be doable.
Have no idea where to start? Here are the pieces you should prioritise and budget for when it comes to creating the bedroom of your dreams.
A Statement Bed Frame
In a list of priorities for your bedroom, the bed and mattress should be at the top of the list. As much as you might like spending time doing your hair and makeup and trying on clothes, working, and even watching TV, the primary reason for the room is sleep.
So, you’re always going to want to prioritise budget for your bed. If you haven’t got a stunning style such as Vi-spring beds, and you choose to prioritise something else, you’re always going to regret it. Regardless of the amount of budget you have available, always put most of it towards your bed.
A Comfortable Mattress
Coming in a close second, if not joining first place, is your mattress. A bed might look good, but it’s actually the mattress that’s going to send you off into a relaxing sleep. So choose wisely. And don’t just order any old thing online. You need to go into the stores and try different styles out to be sure that the one you choose will be comfortable.
There are SO many out there. Me and Jay settled for a memory foam mattress and found it far too hot. We then swapped it for a Leesa mattress and haven’t looked back since.
Then, it’s onto storage. Yes, your bedroom is mainly for sleeping in, but it’s also the place where you keep all of your clothing and accessories — and then some. So, you’re going to want to invest in some storage hacks to keep everything in order. You may find that you don’t have to spend a lot, but you have to be aware of making some sort of budget available for this.
Of course, you’re going to want to consider your makeup area too. For this, you might want to invest in a super pretty makeup vanity that will also double up as a handy storage facility too. This is especially going to be the case if you own more lipsticks that shoes!
These priorities for your bedroom will result in the best sleep ever, and a place to relax in that you truly love.
