On the bank holiday weekend, I met up with some of my best friends from university. They haven’t seen the house since it’s been renovated so I invited them over for a girls’ night which of course included lots of alcohol, snacks and a film.
I had already put a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge, but of course they all brought drinks with them too. One of which was a bottle of St. Germain.
I’d never heard of St. Germain before then, which I’m amazed at because it’s an elder flower liquor and I adore anything elder flower. It’s 20% and the perfect addition to any cocktail.
Whether it was fate, who knows, but someone else pulled out some soda water, the final ingredient to make the perfect St. Germain Champagne Cocktail (ahem, Prosecco cocktail).
The St. Germain Champagne Cocktail is refreshing and light, and perfect for summer. If you’re drinking it at a weekend, you could use a cheaper Cava, but if it’s for a special occasion or a Christmas party, go all out and choose Champagne instead.
How to make a St. Germain Champagne Cocktail
The St. Germain adds sweetness to the sparkling wine, and it’s so easy to make.
Pour some St. Germain into a champagne flute. Fill around a fifth of the glass. Top the rest up with Prosecco, then add a splash of the soda water to finish it off.
To make it look appealing too, add some crushed ice for a ‘proper’ cocktail look and garnish with a sprig of lavender.
It doesn’t require any shaking, or fancy cocktail skills, so just pour and go!
It made for a fabulous evening that felt very civilised, even though we did also have cider and gin. We completed the alcohol off with plenty of crisps and garlic and herb dip, popcorn, skittles, Haribo strawberries and chocolate buttons.
