I have a love/hate relationship with bathrooms. I love them, but they tend to feel cold and unwelcoming.
With a combination of cold tiles, glossy white surfaces, and lots of chrome, bathrooms can feel like cold places. Ours is at the back of the house with two external walls. This means heat escapes even faster than it would in other rooms. I’m always fighting to make my bathroom a warm, relaxing space.
If you have a full-time job and a family to look after, life can get very stressful very quickly. It’s ideal to be able to escape to your own perfect spa bathroom and treat yourself to some much needed me time (any excuse for this hey ladies?).
If your bathroom isn’t quite up to spa standard yet, don’t worry. There are some simple changes you can make to create that perfect bathroom.
Upgrade Your Bath and Taps
Tap Warehouse offers a wide range of sleek and modern taps, sinks and bathtubs to make your bathroom feel brand new and fit for a queen.
I’m not saying that changing the sink and the bath is an easy job. It will possibly be quite a messy on. But it will transform your bathroom into something totally different and modern for you and your family.
Investing in a larger bath will mean that those pamper nights you have once a month will feel even more special, and you’ll have more room to fit a glass of wine of the edge of the tub too (or just buy one of those amazing wine glass holders that suction to the tiles).
Create An Atmosphere
Creating the perfect spa bathroom is all about creating the perfect atmosphere. Think to yourself, What is it that’s relaxing about a spa day? It might be the rain forest sounds, the ambient lights, and the soft glow candles.
You can also achieve all of these things in your own bathroom quite easily. Place some scented candles around the bath and on the windowsill. Replace harsh lights with LED spotlights, which you can buy ‘warm’ bulbs for, taking the bright white edge off. The lighting is key to making the bathroom feel more relaxing, so try and focus on this.
Buy A Waterfall Shower Head
Ever seen those, albeit annoying, adverts by Herbal Essences? The ones where the women are extremely happy to be in the shower washing their amazing (probably fake) hair? If you have, it might have made you wish you had a better shower. I’m not saying you have to go and find a rock with a waterfall pouring over it. The easiest solution is to buy a waterfall shower head.
I definitely prefer having a shower than a bath. Baths are for relaxing, showers are for washing. But showers CAN be relaxing too. The big head disperses water all over you and makes you feel like you’re standing under a waterfall (funnily enough).
Bring The Outdoors In
There’s nothing which screams spa more than some beautiful orchids adorning your space. Orchids are almost like succulents—they don’t need too much water and you’ll get away with using the steam from your shower and bath to nourish it most of the time. They actually prefer a warm, damp environment, so a bathroom is perfect for keeping them healthy.
They are beautiful flowers, and plants are proven to relax you, so it’s a no brainer really.
To complete the feel of your perfect spa bathroom, you’ll need to take a look at the decor. It’s usually best to stick to neutral, light colours and marble patterns for a clean and modern effect. This will create a truly relaxing room. You wouldn’t be able to relax the same if you paint the ceiling pink, or put in some fluorescent tiles.
However, bathrooms would be boring if they were all white, cream and brown. Add some colour through the use of plants, as mentioned above. Or take a bold turn and stray away from the standard white bathroom suite.
Take some inspiration from Come Down to the Woods who has a pink freestanding bath which I adore!
Those are my tips to help you create the perfect spa bathroom! Any others you’d add to the list?
