Bath or shower: How to decide?

When it comes to household fittings, only the debate between curtains and blind comes close to the argument of a bath or a shower. But, let’s face it – in almost every way, a tub or a ducha is miles more important for most homeowners. It says a lot about a person, for a start, a person you might have to spend the rest of your life with. And, there is the problem of limited space in an already tiny living space.

Choosing between a bathtub and a shower isn’t just a personal choice or a logical one, though. It’s a mixture of both and the rest. To make the right decision, it’s important to understand the different scenarios and when one piece of furniture is suitable and when one isn’t. If you can do that, you’ll never have to worry whether the porcelain in the bathroom is up to scratch.

To help, here are the times when you’ll need a bath, a shower, and/or both.

Late For Work: Shower

If you’re a person who’s typically always late for work, you may find that you never have the time to run a bath.

No one likes to admit it, but a lack of punctuality is a trait that affects lots of people. You could get up earlier, but you’re more of a ‘get ready and go’ kinda person.

With a shower, there’s no need to draw a bath, get the temperature right and add salts and creams. Just turn the knob, wait for the warm water to come through and get under the flow in a hasty manner. There – you’re nearly ready for work with minutes to spare.

Need To Relax: Bath

Showers are practical yet they lack the romanticism of a bath. You’re in and out before you know it and have time to enjoy the experience. For people who are all business in the bathroom, they are perfect. For those who have time and want to make every minute count, they are a little impersonal.

Thankfully, a bath is on hand to make you feel welcomed and wanted. With all the time in the world, there is nothing like soaking in scalding water while the world rushes by on the other side of the door. It’s relaxing, and the majority of people in this day and age need a chance to unwind what with the rigours of work and home. Relaxation-wise, nothing compares to a bath in the home décor stakes.

Looking To Sell: Shower

The right fixtures and fittings will add a sizeable amount to the resale value of your property.

The usual suspects are conservatories and front lawns but a shower is on the list too. For one thing, a modern shower, and there are many alternatives, will make the house seem chic and contemporary which is a plus in buyers’ minds.

Also, don’t underestimate the impact of a low-maintenance home. If a bathtub doesn’t suit the needs of the buyer, they will think twice before making a bid. Why? Because baths are difficult to remove, much harder than to install. A shower ticks two of the main boxes: resale value and a blank canvas.

Building A Family: Bath

Imagine being a parent and few things will spring to mind. Shift through them and you’ll land at the mental image of bathing your baby. As far as experiences go, this is one that every mum and dad cherishes because it’s intimate.

Kids, for the most part, love the water and enjoy splashing around in the tub. And there’s the practicality of trying to shower a small baby.

Sticking them under a cascading flow of water is bound to scare them to death and make bathing difficult. There’s a reason it’s called “bath time.” There are bound to be plenty of other things on your mind if you’re planning parenthood, but don’t forget about the bath versus shower debate.

Clean Freak: Shower

Maintaining a clean and tidy home is an essential part of owning property because no one wants to live in a place that’s dirty and uncomfortable.

Unfortunately, a bathtub can make a home a lot less hospitable as dirt and grime collects in the nooks and crannies and impact cleanliness. You only have to look down the plug hole to see horrors that you never want to see again! Also, there’s the fact that you do bathe in your own filth in a bath which isn’t a nice thought for clean freaks.

Showers have a constant supply of fresh water and they’re easy to wipe down after use. In fact, a wet-room will change the way you view cleaning for the rest of your life. You’ll never be able to go back after you throw solution on the floor and wipe it with a squeegee.

Limited Space: Both

As far as rooms go, the bathroom tends to be the smallest in the house. It’s also the one you wished was massive as there’s nothing more frustrating than being locked out when it’s in use.

If only there were two bathrooms.

Of course, this isn’t realistic what with the cost and lack of space, so the only solution is to make the most out of what you have. Combining a bath and a shower is a creative option as it provides you with everything you need under one ceiling.

Installing the shower over the tub takes up virtually no room and provides you with more options. To take it to the next level, you can combine a shower with a freestanding bath and put the tub in one of the hard-to-reach spaces.

Are you a bath or shower person? To get the most out of your home, you don’t have to choose between them if you think outside of the box.

  1. These considerations are actually helpful. Thank you for these tips. Was still in debate whether to invest in a tub or shower, I guess having a tub is the best choice for me as we are ready to settle down and have a family.
