My most recent home buys

Despite attempting to save up for our garden and driveway project, I’ve recently bought some home buys that I definitely don’t need but decided I wanted anyway.

Saving is boring, and I like to treat myself every now and then. Especially because I’m still not totally happy with two rooms in the house in particular: the bathroom and the lounge.

So, I decided to do something about it. Why don’t I like these rooms? What is it about them that puts me off? Well, I want a new sofa, but seeing as that might cost around £800, we won’t be doing that any time soon (major sad face).

I’ve also never liked the floor in our bathroom. It’s the one thing my husband picked during the house renovation, and I hate it.

So I’ve finally decided to try and ‘fix’ these rooms. Here are the home buys I’ve bought to fall back in love with my house again.

New Bathroom Flooring

The lino we’ve currently got only cost £30 from B&Q so I don’t feel at all guilty about throwing it out after just a year and a half. I wasn’t sure what flooring I wanted to go down. I did think of going for black, as it’s daring, but decided against it. Instead, I’ve gone for a dark brown that’s less orange and stripey than the floor we’ve got now. I even created a mood board to celebrate (and make sure the flooring was what I wanted).

I also bought the bath mat pictured above, and a faux plant to go on the floor in a plant basket.

So hopefully, that’s the bathroom as I want it.

A New Door Sign

Our old house number sign was just antiquated and ugly. It had owls on it, and had become pretty much unreadable.

So, I got this new one from UK Sign Shop and I love it! It has not just our number, but also our road name on there (blacked out).

The design is neat, and the slate is really heavy and good quality. I was so happy when this arrived!

Porch Tiles

I’ll be doing a full blog post when our porch is finished. At the moment, we’ve taken the cladding off the inside to reveal the brick underneath.

We’ve bought new tiles and will hopefully be getting some new storage furniture for it as well.

Here’s a sneak peak on how it’s going so far!

Unfortunately, we’re keeping the porthole windows, but will be putting white frames around them.

Ignore my toes ^^ but this photo shows how awful our current tiles are.

I’ve bought my tiles for this project, so you’ll just have to wait for the final reveal in a couple of weeks time.

New Shelves

Some of you might have seen my most recent post featuring my new shelves. I challenged myself to buy and style shelves for a budget of £50. I did it, and I love the way they look. Now I just need to buy a light for underneath the shelves and I’m finished!

As I mentioned at the start of this post, I don’t like our sofa, so I’m trying to find ways to make it better.

I think, to fall back in love with my living room, I need to introduce some new colour and patterns. I’ve fallen in love with these cushions. One is £5 from Asda, one is £45 from John Lewis. Bit of a difference, but I think they compliment each other so well, and am tempted to buy them…..

The poster helps to tie all my colours together: green, pink and yellow.

So those are my home buys so far of 2019. I’m still dreaming of a new sofa, but I suppose I’ll have to realise that that won’t be happening any time soon…

  1. I’m decorating my lounge this year and looking for inspiration. I really have no idea what colour scheme but it needs to match a cream/beige marble fireplace as replacing that is well out of my budget. I’m loving the green and beige with splashes of pink and yellow and the plaid wallpaper would look amazing on my 12 ft chimney breast
