The Cat and Fiddle pub that you go past on a road trip through the North West

The Best Road Trips in the North West

The North West of England has been my home since I was born and there are some stunning road trips you can take in this area.

I absolutely love my home town of Chester, and have never moved far from it. The furthest I moved was Liverpool when I went to university which was just a 40-minute drive.

The North West has so many amazing places to visit, including Liverpool, Lancaster, Manchester and the beautiful Lake District, and there’s some stunning drives you can do as well.

Lease Car has created an infographic (below) that showcases some of the best road trips there are to do in the UK.

The Cat & Fiddle, Buxton

The Peak District lies on the edge of East Cheshire into Derbyshire. This drive, named after the pub you’ll find on the route, runs through the heart of the Peak District between Buxton and Macclesfield. It’s a very popular route with both drivers and motorcyclists.

It’s known for its hairpin bends and twists when it rises above the reservoir so it’s a drive best for experienced drivers.

It only takes about 20 minutes to drive the 12-mile route, but look out for the speed cameras that are dotted the whole way along the track. They’re there for your safety!

The A591 Central Lakes

This road has one of the best views in the whole of the UK and has been voted one of Britain’s favourite roads because of its gentle inclines and the chance for both acceleration and braking.

The road passes through Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick. It should be on your bucket list if you haven’t driven down it before!

Forest of Bowland, Lancashire

The Forest of Bowland is situated near the town of Pendle, where some of the most famous witch trials took place in the 17th century. There were 12 women accused of murdering 10 people through the use of witchcraft.

If their story interests you, then the Lancashire Witches Driving Trail is definitely a place you should visit! You can start the drive in Pendle, travelling through the Forest of Bowland which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and onto Lancaster Castle, where the witches were tried.
