A cheap master bedroom makeover (REVEAL!)
So we’ve moved and settled into our new home and we’ve been cracking on with some smaller DIY tasks for now. Painting the fireplace was the first job I tackled and it was such an easy one! It made me think I could do something bigger.
So I decided to tackle our bedroom. In our previous home, our bedroom actually never got finished – we decided to sell the place without renovating. SO we’ve lived with green carpet, beige curtains and peach walls for the last three years. I thought we deserved a little glow up. Keep reading to find out what we did!
The Before
Our home was previously rented for 8 years before we bought it. This means it contains a LOT of cream walls and cream carpets. I was so ready to add some of our personality to it.
The wardrobes in there appear white at first but they’re actually a VERY light shade of pink. This got me excited because I always wanted a blue and pink bedroom. So it was the perfect opportunity to paint the room dark blue.
The paint I chose is called ‘Shale Blue’ by Valspar. They have kindly worked with me on this project and supplied the paint.
Painting
I was super scared to start painting this room. I’ve never used such a dark colour before but there was absolutely nothing to be worried about. I flipping love this colour!
This was the first coat. Obviously painting a light coloured wall so dark requires at least two coats, but the first coat went on evenly and smoothly.
Everything was going well. I’d clearly bought dust sheets to put over the furniture and on the floor. I did two walls so successfully without spilling even a drop on the dust sheets that I thought, ‘these are just getting in the way, I don’t need them’.
WELL, let me tell you I was wrong.
I came to put the first coat on the third wall and
DISASTER STRUCK. Half a tin of paint, yes HALF, spilt all over the carpet. Luckily, I’m not completely crazy about these carpets, but I was still slightly devastated. Didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. So of course I documented the whole thing on my Instagram story (if you also need a laugh, you can find the full disaster saved to my highlights).
My parents came to the rescue with their carpet cleaner, which did actually remove most of the stain. Now I have a chest of drawers covering it. After that, I was done for the day and a meal at the pub was absolutely needed.
I started again the next day and thankfully no more disasters:

Thankfully, I managed to finish the room and here’s the result!
I absolutely love the dark blue and the copper together. I have another copper bedside light on the way for the left hand side of the bed. My next project is to upcycle those bedside tables too. I’ve had them since I was a child and they definitely need some TLC.
