About the brand

Portuguese Treasures will be your new go-to for eco-conscious home essentials, interior design, and construction supplies.

Founded in 2011 by Bruno Figueira, the brand’s vision was to spread love for sustainable and eco-friendly home and create beautiful homeware items that represent the essence of Portugal and the culture there. Portuguese Treasures are actually located in Dorset in the South West of the UK.

They collaborate with experts, skilled artisans, and manufacturers to create stunning homeware products, from incredible materials like cork and olive wood.

What is olive wood?

Olive wood is a beautiful, hard material that comes from the olive tree. It’s especially precious because olive trees (or olea europaea) take so long to grow, and it has to dry out for several years before it can be cut and shaped. It can also be hard to come by because olive trees are mostly grown for their olives.

For these reasons, it’s considered a high end and luxurious wood. It’s very strong and hard thanks to its density, which is why it’s so good for use as a cutting board or for knife handles.

It has an especially striking pattern that often can’t be duplicated in other woods, and the tones are mainly cream or yellow rather than orange or brown.

  56. I love these items because of the cork material it is made out of. It is super sustainable because it’s derived from a tree, it is self-regenerative as it is just the bark that it is. It is helps insulate the food and drink you use it for to stop it going cold too quickly
