How to save money on a new sofa
We all know that feeling when you walk into a furniture store, eyes wide with excitement, only to have your heart sink at the price tags on those dreamy sofas. But fear not! Today, we’re diving into some fabulous tips and tricks to help you save a pretty penny while still snagging that perfect sofa for your home.
I’m a huge advocate for budget interiors – it’s one of the main focuses of my site – and so I’m always trying to find ways people can make the home of their dreams without overspending.
If you need to purchase a new sofa, there are ways you can do this without paying full price at a sofa showroom so read on to become a savvier shopper and save money on your new sofa.
Buy secondhand
Not only is this a more sustainable option than buying new, it could also save you a decent amount of money. There are tons of places you can find a pre-loved sofa, from Facebook Marketplace and eBay to charity shops, auction websites, car boot sales and more.
Many of them are still in excellent condition or hardly used, but if you’re worried about the sofa not looking its best, you can pay to have it professionally cleaned, or even buy replacement covers.
Get cashback through cashback websites
While not exactly a discount, cashback websites do just that – they give you cashback on any purchases you make through their website that you can then put back in your bank or put towards other purchases/gift vouchers, etc.
In the time I’ve had a TopCashback account, I’ve ‘earned’ a total of £1,090 that I would otherwise not have seen, so it’s well worth doing, particularly for larger purchases like travel insurance, furniture and more.
Some brands offer more cashback than others, but it could be as much as 20%. Sign up to a cashback site to browse the available brands you can get money back from and then use those to find a new sofa.
Purchase an ex-display sofa
Did you know, brands sell on ex-display sofas at a cheaper rate, despite the fact they’ve probably only been sat on 50 times? These sofas are in top condition still and you’re getting exactly the same product that you may otherwise have paid full price for. You can find ex-display sofas from brands like Barker and Stonehouse, SCS, DFS and Sofology.

Wait for the sales
If you’re patient and wait for the sales to find the right deal, you can get a fabulous sofa at an equally fabulous price. Sofa clearance sales pop up all the time, particularly around summer and Christmas, so be sure to check websites regularly or sign up to email newsletters that might alert you to potential sales and clearances.
Consider outlet stores
Outlet stores are a goldmine for bargains. These shops often stock high-quality furniture at a fraction of the price because they’re either a result of overstocking or they have a slight fault that meant the manufacturer wasn’t happy to sell for full price. A tiny blemish you might never notice can save you hundreds of pounds!
So, there you have it – my top tips for saving money on a new sofa that will help you furnish your home without breaking the bank. If you try any of these and find the perfect sofa for you, let me know it worked in the comments, and happy sofa hunting!
