My Top Netflix Watches So Far in 2020
I’m a huge fan of Netflix and all the original series they continue to bring out. If you’re struggling for inspiration on what to watch next, then don’t look any further than my top Netflix picks of 2020 so far.
These should keep you busy for a while!
To make your viewing even more spectacular, we have a surround sound system that is life changing. One such as the Panasonic wireless home cinema system will make for the ultimate movie night in.
The Stranger
The Stranger is very new to Netflix and I binged it in about 3 days. It’s an 8-episode series based around Adam and his family. Adam receives some unusual information from a stranger while he’s watching his boys play football. She tells him that his wife faked a pregnancy and that he should search their bank records for a transaction that occurred on a certain date, He goes home to find that it’s there, exactly where the stranger said it would be.
So how does this woman know so much about Adam’s wife and why did she feel the need to tell him this secret?
The series reminded me of a typical BBC thriller drama and had me hooked from start to finish. With dodgy cops, gory murders, suspicious transactions, a poisoning and even a decapitated alpaca, this new series has everything you need and more.
Miss Americana
I love delving into the lives of celebrities. You’ll find me joining the Kardashians and Jenners in ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ and stalking Jodie Comer on Instagram. This is why I was so intrigued when Netflix released the Taylor Swift documentary, Miss Americana.
I like Taylor Swift’s music but didn’t know much about her apart from her love of cats and that Kayne West once interrupted her acceptance speech at the VMAs. But the document went deeper into the parts of her life that we never get to see – how she comes up with her songs, the pressure she feels to always release new music and change her look so people don’t get bored.
It’s a lot of pressure being that famous and the documentary was both intense and eye-opening.
Money Heist
Okay, so Money Heist isn’t a new series, but it’s one that I’ve just watched this year.
Big claim coming up: it might be one the best series I’ve ever watched. It is UNBELIEVABLE. Once you get used to the English dubs over the original Spanish actors, it’s addictive.
The group are trying to undertake the biggest heist that’s ever occurred, and they’re taking over the Mint of Spain. Each one names themselves after a city, giving us characters such as Tokyo, Rio, Berlin, Denver, Moscow, Nairobi and Oslo. Each has their own talent that can be used in the heist. My heart was in my mouth for most of the series. There are currently 3 Parts, with part 4 coming in April 2020, so get watching!
Cheer
This isn’t my sort of documentary, so when everyone was talking about it, I didn’t get the hype. Then one evening, I started it. OH MY GOSH I’m so glad I did.
The series is based on the training of the Navarro cheerleaders, following them and their coach, Monica, on their journey to the nationals. This team literally feels like my family. You are rooting for every single person on that team, getting to know them, watching them practice and get injured. Some parts had me watching with my hands over my eyes.
If you want a feel good docu-series, I highly advise starting with this one.
Sex Education: Season 2
Sex Education is such a funny, feel-good show that actually deals with some big issues around sex, sexual abuse, sexuality, abortions and being who you truly are.
Set in the UK (filmed in Wales actually, near my hometown of Chester) but with an American high school feel complete with jocks and Acapella groups, the show follows Otis, a virgin who is known as a bit of a sexpert. Otis offers sex advice, both good and bad, to pupils at the school with his ‘assistant’ Maeve.
Series Two was equally as funny and touching as the first, but with a bigger focus on the impact sexual abuse can have on a person, coping with being gay and relationships. It’s a fabulous show and there’s nothing else like it. Worth the watch if you haven’t seen it yet!
You: Season 2
You: Season 2 was released on Boxing Day, 2019. I’m sure many people also finished it on this day, however I didn’t start watching it until the beginning of January.
I loved Series 1, where we meet creepy Joe Goldberg who is stalking Beck. I won’t ruin the ending of that one in case you haven’t seen it. But I thought, where can series 2 go. Is he just going to stalk another girl?
Well, it did not go in a direction I expected, with a rather hefty twist at the end! With rumours flying about for a third series, this is well worth the watch if you’re into stalkers and sociopaths *upside down smiley face*.
So there’s my 2020 Netflix round up so far! Would you add any films of programmes to this list?
