When you find out you’re pregnant, there are suddenly so many decisions to make and things to buy. One of the biggest things to think about is how you will decorate the nursery.
Will you find out the gender of the baby and stick to traditional pink for a girl and blue for a boy? Do you want to go gender-neutral? Maybe you want an ‘under the sea’ theme, a ‘space’ theme or maybe you just want something classic and beautiful.
When I found out I was pregnant, I knew instantly that I wanted a woodland themed nursery.
A bedroom should always be a relaxing place, somewhere you can lay down your head and get a restful night’s sleep ready for the next day ahead. I’ve always loved walking and being in the great outdoors, so it made sense to us to have a nursery that reflects this. Hopefully, our little girl will love her woodland-themed room and find it as relaxing and calming as we think it will be.
Perhaps you’re here because you’re after some woodland-themed nursery ideas and inspiration, or maybe you just want to incorporate elements of the theme into your child’s bedroom.
Below, you can see how we decorated our woodland nursery, but you can also find tons of other images that will give you plenty of ideas for your own nursery. Whether you want to go bright and bold or dark and gloomy, enchanted forest inspiration or friendly, calming woodlands, I hope I have you covered.
Woodland-themed wallpaper and wall murals
When creating a woodland nursery, one of the best places to start is with the wallpaper – go big or go home I say!
Forest Fun mural, Photowall
That’s exactly what we chose to do when we used the Forest Fun mural from Photowall. But there are so many pretty designs out there, it was hard for us to choose. Below, you can find some of my favourite woodland-themed wall murals to give you ideas.
This is the beautiful wall mural we chose for our woodland nursery. The colours are beautifully soft and the picture is full of animals. Everywhere you look there’s deer, rabbits, foxes, squirrels, owls, racoons and even a bear! I loved the variety of forest animals that can be found here, and imagined our little girl pointing out various animals as she gets older.
Amazing Antlers, Wallsauce
The colours in the Amazing Antlers mural really are amazing. The stag takes centre stage and the forest feels a lot more autumny, so you could use yellows, oranges and greens throughout the rest of your nursery to keep it very gender neutral.
Hidden Treasure, Wallsauce
This woodland/forest mural is totally different to the other two, but I love it. It’s bold, full of colour and a bit more dream-like in the way it’s been drawn. It certainly has an enchanted forest feel to it, with the little fairy homes and toadstools.
Wall stickers from Made By Paatch
Want to incorporate some fun wall decor, but without going all out? These Big Jungle Wall Stickers from Made by Paatch can be added wherever you want them, however you want them. They leave plenty of white space so the room still feels quite clean and minimal.
Animal prints
Animal prints are an essential in a woodland themed nursery. Their defining feature, however, is that they’re subtle. If you don’t want to go for a bold wall mural, you can add the woodland touches in the small details.
These prints are a mixture of woodland and safari images, showcasing lions, giraffes, rabbits and camels. There’s not a lot of other woodland decor in the nursery, but the prints look beautiful on the wall.
This minimalist, illustrated print could be just the thing your woodland nursery needs. It’s beautifully simple and would suit a nursery of any colour.
Woodland animals decor
A woodland theme can be incorporated into your nursery decor items, too. I’ve included some of my favourite woodland nursery ideas below that could really finish the room beautifully.
I adore this clock from Sunday’s Daughter. It would be perfect for either a nursery or a child’s bedroom, and can be personalised with their name too! I love how they’ve paired it with the lion and turtle wooden statues too for a true safari feel.
This adorable bear flag is from Fy! and it adds a really subtle woodland feel, if you do want to keep the theme very paired back.
No woodland nursery is complete without some fox decor, and this basket is the most adorable piece of storage. You could fill it with toys, blankets or something else entirely to keep everything out of the way. No matter how you use it, you know it will look adorable in your woodland nursery.
This nursery shows perfectly how you can create a safari or woodland-themed nursery while keeping it toned down and subtle. The only animal in the room is the giraffe, who takes centre stage peering into the cot bed. The colours are so calming and the nursery would be perfect for either a girl or boy.
Fox-shaped bed for a woodland bedroom
This incredible fox-shaped bed is certainly a statement piece. It could be ideal for a child’s bedroom when they’re ready to upsize from their nursery, but is the perfect item for children obsessed with animals or the great outdoors.
I am obsessed with how our woodland nursery is turning out. It’s still a work in progress, but I love the theme and the room is so calming to be in.
To plan the room, I first created a moodboard, and I would advise that everyone does this. It helps you to visualise how the room will look and decide what elements you do and don’t want.
I then brought it to life by installing the woodland wall mural and painting the room in Lick Green 09.
Ever since, we’ve been adding the furniture and other decor items, like our sustainable Briiv filter, to make the room the best environment we can.
