If you’ve been dreaming of a countryside escape that combines rustic character with modern comfort, Stag Cottage* could be your perfect match.

Nestled on the edge of the Peak District, in the quiet hamlet of Wincle near Macclesfield, this beautifully restored stone farmhouse offers an idyllic spot to switch off and recharge.

It’s the sort of place where you arrive, drop your bags, and instantly feel the pace of life slow down. Surrounded by rolling green hills and peaceful farmland, Stag Cottage feels completely private yet is still within easy reach of walks, villages and pubs.

A countryside stay with all the comforts

From the moment you pull up on the gravel drive, Stag Cottage makes a wonderful first impression. The property has been lovingly renovated to a high standard, offering all the charm of a traditional farmhouse with a contemporary finish.

Step inside and you’ll find a bright, spacious kitchen and dining area complete with an Aga, modern appliances and a large central island that’s perfect for gathering around with a glass of wine while dinner cooks.

Every detail has been considered, and I love how they’ve kept the character in this stunning building. The beams are absolutely a thing of wonder.

The living spaces are equally inviting. A cosy sitting room features a wood-burning stove for those crisp autumn evenings, while a separate snug and a conservatory provide plenty of space to unwind. Whether you’re curling up with a good book, playing board games with family, or simply soaking in the views from the conservatory, there’s a calm, homely feel throughout.

One bedroom includes an en-suite with a walk-in shower, and there’s also a family bathroom with a freestanding bath and walk-in shower, perfect for a long soak after a day out exploring.

A garden made for relaxing

Outside, you’ll find a lovely enclosed garden with a decked area, outdoor furniture, and your very own hot tub, an absolute highlight of this property.

Imagine sinking into the warm bubbles as the sun sets over the hills, or sitting outside on a summer’s evening with a drink in hand, surrounded by nothing but peace and quiet.

Stag Cottage* is the ideal blend of luxury and laidback country living. The owners have clearly thought of everything, from high-quality furnishings and linens to thoughtful touches that make it feel like a true home-from-home.

It’s also Sustonica certified, meaning it meets eco-friendly standards for energy, waste and water use, so you can relax knowing your stay is that bit more sustainable too.

Exploring the local area

While it’s tempting to spend all your time at the cottage, the surrounding area is packed with things to see and do.

Being right on the border of Cheshire and the Peak District means you’re just a short drive from some of the region’s best walking and cycling routes. The nearby Roaches are a must for hikers, offering spectacular panoramic views.

You can also explore the charming spa town of Buxton, only about ten miles away, or head into Macclesfield for local shops and cafes. There are plenty of lovely pubs dotted around the area too, the kinds of places where you can warm up by the fire with a pint and a hearty meal after a day on the trails.

Things to know before you go

To keep that peaceful atmosphere intact, Stag Cottage doesn’t accept pets or parties, so it’s ideal for families, couples, or small groups of friends looking for a quiet retreat.

A £500 Good Housekeeping bond applies, and an initial allocation of wood is provided for the log burner, with more available to purchase if you need it.

Do double-check the directions before you travel as well. It’s in a rural area, and satnavs can occasionally get creative when it comes to farm tracks! Once you’re there though, it’s well worth the journey.

Why I’ve chosen it as my Property of the Month

What makes Stag Cottage* so special is its balance of comfort, character and location. It’s luxurious without feeling formal, stylish without being fussy, and peaceful without being isolated.

With its stunning interiors, hot tub, and postcard-perfect setting, it’s exactly the sort of home-from-home that makes a countryside break feel truly restorative.

Whether you’re planning a winter escape with the fire roaring or a summer getaway surrounded by greenery, this gorgeous farmhouse ticks all the boxes.

What do others say?

Stag Cottage has some lovely reviews from previous guests.

“The cottage was cosy, peaceful, and full of charm—just what our family needed to unwind from city life.”

“Real attention to detail throughout. Liz was so very warm and welcoming, but the highlight was the chickens which we named the Fantastic Four – really tame and came to see us several times over the two days.”

“We will be back for sure. Everything was 10/10. The owners were lovely and couldn’t do more for you. The cottage was extremely clean and beautifully decorated. This was by far one of the nicest cottages we have stayed.”
