Welcome back to my Property of the Month, where I choose my favourite property to stay in around Chester, Cheshire and North Wales.

September’s property is a real gem, nestled beside the River Dee near the centre of Chester.

12 Deva Terrace* is a three-storey Georgian townhouse that blends historic character with modern comforts. The design, as you’ll see, is incredible, and your private patio backs onto the river, with stunning views of the meadows beyond.

A Grade-II listed Georgian delight

Georgian and Victorian properties are my favourite. Their attention to detail and beautiful period features just can’t be found in properties of other eras.

Dating back to 1827, this mid-terrace townhouse invites you back to the Georgian era. It’s been beautifully decorated in a style that’s very much in keeping with the property’s age.

The furniture is relatively traditional, and there’s a stunning marble fireplace in the living room. Complete with classic sash windows and a refined facade, there’s a sense of timelessness that just instantly transports you back to the 19th century (but with the mod cons we’re used to, like the TV).

Stunning scenic views

The beauty of this property is that it isn’t right in the middle of town. Perched beside the River Dee, the terraced garden slopes gently toward the riverside, where you’ll find a patio that’s ideal for reading, unwinding or sharing a bottle of wine.

The property offers some lovely views, and you can while away your time sipping tea and watching boats, like the Lady Diana, go by.

The property advises that children must be supervised at all times, with the access to the river. They also don’t allow pets at the property.

Living spaces and features

Set over three floors, the property has a modern, well-equipped kitchen, two living rooms, three bedrooms, one family bathroom and a downstairs loo.

The bedrooms are split into a king, a double and clever adult bunks, perhaps ideal for two children. These are tastefully decorated in the style of the Georgian era, with soft blue walls, French-style furniture and beautiful bedding.

The kitchen has an oven, a gas hob, a microwave and a washer-dryer. Gas central heating throughout means the property will be cosy all year round, plus you’ll be provided with a welcome starter pack for the fire.

This property proudly carries the Sustonica certification, meaning it meets thoughtful standards in energy use, water conservation, waste reduction, and inclusivity. Good for you, good for the planet.

The perfect Chester location

While you’re out of the hustle and bustle of the main city, it doesn’t take long to make your way there. You’re a stone’s throw from Grosvenor Park, which has a miniature railway that runs through the spring and summer for the children and a great park and duck pond.

To get to the centre of Chester, it’s approximately a 10 minute walk past the Grosvenor park and up Love Street. There you’ll find shops, restaurants, cafes and bars galore.

The best breakfast spots include Hickory’s (by the river), the Flower Cup and Marmalade. Some great wine bars include Vin Santo or Paysan (Beer Heroes might be more your thing if you’re into craft beers).
